Concert of Harp and Voice
May 6th at 4:00pm. Concert of Harp and Voice: Ben Thorburn, Baritone and Colleen Potter Thorburn, Harp.

The St. Paul’s Choir is the main choir of the church, and sings at the 10:30 Sunday service as well as feast-day, Holy Week, and occasional Evensong services.  The choir also presents an annual Lessons and Carols for Advent.

Our choirmaster is Charles Lindsey, Jr., click here for bio.

Rooted in the Anglican tradition, the choir’s repertoire comprises only high-quality music from all musical time periods. In our sound, we maintain a commitment to exquisite tonal production reminiscent of the longstanding men and boy choir tradition. Most of our music ranges from moderately to very difficult, and typically our members feel privileged to be able to sing so much repertoire of substance, beauty, and challenge.  We welcome new singers who possess excellent music reading skills with voices that can easily blend. We also welcome youth from age twelve and up who are interested in learning high-quality music and training in voice and musicianship. We rehearse Wednesday evenings from 7:00 to 9:00 from September through May. We have a strong sense of fellowship, and we have an annual weekend choir retreat at Sandbridge.

To arrange an audition with the choirmaster, please send an e-mail to choirmaster Charles Lindsey, Jr. at charleslindsey15@gmail.com.

Our Treble Choristers sing with the St. Paul’s Choir regularly. They also sing independently as well as with the Gentlemen of the Choir. The Treble Choristers group is open to children and youth of any age who display an interest in vocal, musical, and liturgical training and are able to sing in the soprano and alto range. In addition to learning music for the worship services, choristers receive music theory training and exposure to traditional hymnody and liturgical customs. Members must evince enough maturity to be able to participate in accord with the St. Paul’s Choir in worship. For children who are not advanced enough to do so but for whom there is interest in musical training, we offer a seasonal children’s choir led by our choral assistants, who are members of the St. Paul’s Choir and degreed music education specialists. Older boys with changed voices who display similar musical interests are also welcome into membership in the St. Paul’s Choir. Any additional training for the older boys outside of the St. Paul’s Choir rehearsal would be arranged.

For inquiry into either of these programs, please send an e-mail to choirmaster Charles Lindsey, Jr., at charleslindsey15@gmail.com.

We are exploring the development of a choir-school type of offering in the near future.  Details will be published as the project unfolds. The Joseph Whittle Music and Arts Fund is the primary music funding for extra choral services such as Evensong and Lessons and Carols as well as for our concerts.
